I remote started my car while standing next to it, because laziness and a dying clicker battery. And the car lurched forward a few inches. That’s not standard, right?

It's that or my car is really eager to leave work.

You haven’t lived until you’ve seen a bodged remote starter launch a manual car left in gear through a garage door.

You should do a write up about it.

Worn motor mounts and torque struts.

Try this, with the engine off, car in park, and the hood open. Rock the car back and forth from the front. You should see the the engine rolling forward and back.

You can also do it from the drivers seat, engine running, foot on brake and giving it gas in drive and in reverse.

Was the car parked as it was in that picture? I ask because it looks like you’re parked on some ice, possibly the momentum of the transverse engine kicking over nugged the whole car. I’ve been parked on a slippery hill, leaned forward, then threw my torso back into the seat and have had my whole car slide back as result

How about off a pier into the water?

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/05/09/dri…

I was there for this one, about 100 feet from the car. Ls1swapped, manual 6 speed, and a remote start. The owner actually made it into the car before it took off and attempted to stop it. He went right off the pier whilst bouncing off 2 cars and a motorcycle in the process. He was in shock, sitting g in the car as it bobbed up and down while everyone was yelling for him to get out. He snapped to within 10 seco ds or so....

It's probably that actually. I know the tranny mounts aren't the best, so the engine mounts are probably close behind, :/.

Actually it lurched again when I exited Walmart. Not as much, but it was still there.

No matter what your going to have play between the parking prawl within the automatic transmission and the wheels, think planetary gearsets, differential, CV joints, all with allowable backlash tollerences, the only way to pick up that slack is to set the E-brake

I respect you and everyone else for asking questions like these, it seems like some are so blind to the amount of engineering and thought that goes into modern society. I feel like it’s really important to want to know WHY and HOW stuff does what it does to truly appriciate it, but maybe I’m crazy, I’ve been told I am

Probably will have to. It shouldnt be an issue right now, but I am afraid it's gonna hit someone if it lurches like that.

Thanks. I think I’m one of the few green opponauts, at least one of the few who will admit it. I know for a fact I’m not the only one curious and wondering, but I’m willing to look silly and ask a question.

Honestly, if my car acts weird, I'd like to know why. :)

Engine is cold so higher starting RPM and possibly thick cold transmission oil causing torque converter to move and move the car alittle bit? That’s my educated guess :)
